Simmons College Crew competed in the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23.
In the Women's Collegiate Four the Sharks lineup, all second-years, included Madolin Mahoney, Bre Glynn, Sydney Goldstein, Taylor Nealand, and Alex Kruzel. They finished 22 out of 33.
"There are over 8,000 athletes that compete in HOCR every year, and to be included in that group is an honor," said third-year Anna Rowse.
On Sunday Oct. 23, Simmons' crew entry of Jess Dowler, Audrey Purcell, Sarah Herman, Emily Hagens, Alison Carr, Jane Walsh, Aris Walker, Anisa Swei and Rowse finished 17th out of 29 crews.
Simmons also had a second-year that competed alone in the Women's Club Single, Kate Hale. She finished 25 out of 37 boats.
The Women's Eight team was hit by the Weslyan boat disrupting the last leg of their race.
"It was just something that sort of happened," said Rowse. "The main thing is we had fun and can't wait for next weekend."
Simmons has their last race of the fall season, the Seven Sisters Regatta, on Oct. 29 at Smith College in North Hampton, MA.
"We are hoping for a strong finish. After that, we will have captain's practices through March, when our official season begins in Melbourne, FL. Then, we race for the rest of the semester in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA," said Rowse.
